Random Ireland

Today’s picture are some random ones from our trip to Ireland. Pictures that don’t fit in any particular place or category.

The morning of March 23rd we went to a cattle auction in the town where my mother-in-law lives. These auctions happen quite regularly.

That afternoon we visited Glenquin Castle, the first of many we saw. It was closed, but just touching something that old is pretty exciting.

On April 4th we went to Ballybunion. They have a statue of former president Bill Clinton in front of their Garda (police) station. He used to (may still for all I know) go golfing there. The statue was put up in 1998 while he was still US president.

We didn’t just go there to see the Bill Clinton statue. It was a nice day (low 60s and no rain) and for the Irish people who don’t know when the next very pleasant day will be, that means it’s time to go to the beach!

On my 35th birthday on April 5th we went to Cragg Cave. My husband and mother-in-law totally surprised me when a cake was brought out after we finished lunch!

On April 10th, we went to a pub and experienced some real Irish entertainment including a band that kept getting bigger as more people joined in, a storyteller, and a young girl doing some traditional Irish dancing (plus the food was really yummy, too!).

There were lots of random castle ruins scattered around everywhere

On April 11th we went to Ennis Friary. It dates to the 1300s. It’s not used to house the monks anymore (they are a few blocks away). It’s a museum, but they do still occasionally bury someone inside the grounds.

I love this sculpture in front of a church.

It’s hard to wrap my mind around being able to touch a building this old.
