Every night before bed we give Adrian oatmeal. Otherwise he is awake by 1 and starving. Even with giving him the oatmeal, he is still awake around 5 and starving. If we wake up enough to get up with him and feed him, he goes back to sleep for a few hours shortly after eating. He’s a giant little toddler and he’s got a huge appetite!
We have a little tradition we do each year. We school year round, but there are a few guaranteed days off for my kids: Federal holidays, any other day Jamie has off from work, their birthdays, and the day the public school kids go back to school. Today is the first day of school and so my kids get the day off to celebrate.
First Fritz was sick for a few days. Then Adrian got a stuffy nose. Even though both boys are pretty much totally healthy now, Adrian is still not sleeping. He cries a lot during the night and just generally won’t settle down for very long. He’s been nursing most of the night, too, and he was sleeping through the night quite regularly until he got sick. So it’s been over a week since we got a full night of sleep. I’m tired!
Yesterday Fritz was eating a peach. He came running over to me with a horrified look declaring that his peach was poopy. He had eaten down to the pit and apparently thought it was poop. I told him that was the seed, not poop. With a look that clearly showed he didn’t believe me, he got out a knife, cut out the pit, and ate the non-poopy rest of the peach.
The surgeon biopsied the cyst on my thyroid yesterday. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, though the needle was like 8″ long and scary looking. My neck is a little sore. The surgeon said it looked to her like just a regular run of the mill nothing to worry about cyst. I go back in two weeks for the results, but we don’t anticipate them to be anything to worry about.
We went to Ruby Tuesday for dinner last night. I was a little annoyed when I discovered that for low calorie dressings they only have light ranch (which is still relatively high in points) and a balsamic vinaigrette. They had oil and vinegar, but it was also balsamic.
So I complained.
The waitress got the manager and she said Ruby Tuesday only does balsamic vinegar (which I don’t like) for their oil and vinegar. It’s kind of ridiculous because both vinegar choices are balsamic.
So then Jamie asked if they had lemon juice. The manager said they did and happily got me a cup of it. I must say, oil and lemon juice for dressing is WAY better than oil and vinegar. I just might request some lemon juice every time I go to Ruby Tuesday now.
I had my appointment with the surgeon this morning. She could easily feel the cyst. According to the ultrasound report it is 3.0×1.7×0.2 cm with little cysts attached to it. So now I have an appointment for Wednesday morning for a needle biopsy. She is going to drain it then and hopefully that will be the end of it.
Of course it’s never pleasant to hear the “c” word spoken by a doctor, but the odds are in my favor. She said just by feeling it and reading the report she is 80% sure it is just a cyst and nothing to worry about. It’s that 20% that requires a closer look and is why I’m having the biopsy next week.
Even if it is thyroid cancer the odds are still in my favor. But we’re just going to focus on that 80% chance that it’s just a cyst and not think about the implications of it being anything else. We’ll cross that bridge if we have to come to it.
